FORWARD Endowment: 2025 Grants Set Records
The FORWARD Endowment, the Manitowoc County trust established to fund projects focused on hunting, fishing, conservation, and related education, has announced its grants for the 2025 giving season. FORWARD stands for Friends Of Resources, Wildlife And Recreational Development. It was founded by The Manitowoc Unit of Manitowoc County Fish & Game in 1993 and it has become the premier conservation trust in the area. The Manitowoc County Fish and Game Protective Association has been a major supporter of the fund through their Annual Banquet proceeds each year. The community at large can also make donations.
The 2025 giving season has set records in two important areas. A record number of grant requests were received, with 11 requests totaling $55,000. Recently, the trust format was changed to a unitrust, which allows for the funding of more projects. Awards have been granted totaling just over $28,000 to 8 of the requests. This is a record both in the number of projects funded and the total amount awarded. Organizations vary from conservation clubs to educational groups and include funding of public infrastructure like fishing piers, information programs about deer hunting, and signage for area conservation attractions.
“We are funding some great work in conservation right here in Manitowoc County”, said Dean Halverson, Chair of the Gift Committee. “FORWARD has become a key resource in maintaining and improving the quality of life we enjoy here.” Funding requires the organization to document completion of the work in the grant and any other funding required.
The FORWARD Endowment has provided over $200,000 in grants awarded to projects and groups in Manitowoc County. These represent completed projects in the community. FORWARD is a 501-C3 and donations can make checks payable to The FORWARD Endowment c/o Associated Bank. Those making end of the year charitable donations are invited to consider the fund.
